Art from softness, dedication and the courage to become who you are

My name is Merel Alphenaar – visual artist, dreamer, and mother of two. I live and work in Gouda, where I share my life with my family. From a young age I was a sensitive and creative child, always drawing, crafting or fantasizing. After my parents divorced, I moved with my mother and brother to Gouda, where I grew up in a warm and close-knit family. My stepfather later became an important pillar in my life. Through my father, who lived in Singapore for a while, I got a half-sister, and now my family lives close by again.

What people often say about me? That I am someone who has a positive outlook on life and who is sweet, caring and involved . Someone who is always there for others, and who fully commits herself when she goes for something. And that is true. When I feel something, I do it with heart and soul. That is exactly how I started my artistry.

After my 30th birthday I rediscovered drawing as an outlet. From relaxation and desire it grew into a deeper calling: painting. I soon knew – this is where my fire is . To deepen my passion I decided to follow the intensive Mastery training of Milan Art . This journey was a turning point: it brought me into contact with my inner visual language and the courage to put this down professionally.

Art as a mirror from within

My paintings are created intuitively, from feeling and movement. I work with mixed media, acrylic and oil paint, and combine abstract layers with symbolism, structure and soft depth. In my work you will find themes such as motherhood, vulnerability, passion and the silent power of being a woman and the power of animals.

I believe that art is a mirror – a way to feel what you sometimes can't say in words.
And may it remind you of who you are, underneath all the layers.

Mission and dream

With my art I don't just want to create, I want to share . I hope to inspire others to make their dreams come true - whatever they may be. Because if something lives in your heart, you can follow it.

I dream of my own studio, of work that travels the world and touches hearts. And of a place where I can receive people, to help them find their own voice through workshops and creative sessions.

Besides art, I enjoy life with my family, relatives and children around me. I believe in small happiness, in connection and in staying true to yourself.
