Becoming her own

This painting is the first completed work in my exploration of deepening portraiture. With this project, I aim not only to develop my technique but also to investigate how portraits can coincide with themes such as identity, strength, and self-love.

While painting, I noticed that I spent a lot of time on the abstract underlayers, the intuitive play with color, form, and emotion. I kept postponing the actual portrait. Perhaps because it felt personal, or exciting. Now that the work is finished, I feel pride and the desire to continue growing.

In Becoming Her Own, the power of choosing for oneself is central. The face is partially hidden, yet fully present. She blooms quietly, softly, but determinedly.

This is just the beginning.
